Chromium-plated metal, white onyx, wood and jadeite (or nephrite), keyless-winding, vertical rectangular-shape with stepped rounded corners, 8-day going, Art Deco desk-clock. On the right side, a carved stylised Chinese subject showing an Imperial guardian lion, also known as “stone lion” or “shishi”, on a rosewood base carved with flowers and foliage. Grey and light blue colours flinqué enamel (translucent enamel over guilloché engine-turning) dial with stylised sunburst central pattern.

Gübelin 8-day going Art Deco desk clock; Chinese-style décor Gübelin, one of the most luxurious shops in Switzerland, sold many Art Deco clocks in the 1920’s and 1930’s. At this time, this house offers its customers some exceptional creations in the Chinese-style (so-called in French “chinoiserie”) made by Vacheron Constantin, Geneva, and Verger Frères, Paris (clocks in precious metals), but also this type of clocks, less expensive, some of which were auctioned by our house: • No. 22 658, “Dog of Fo”.
