Notes

Speedometers are speed indication and recording devices used in two-cabin vehicles. These are complicated devices both indicating the vehicle speed and registering other important travel data.

They consist of several mechanisms, which work together and depend on each other, as follows:
· Speedometer drive (in the form of a speedometer cable carrying the torque from the wheel set or an electric motor fixed under the speedometer housing).
· Strip feed mechanism (allows recorded data – such as speed, travel time, travel direction, etc. – to be combined into a graph).
· Movement mechanism (this is a system with the most accurate elements; it measures and indicates the speed of the vehicle and records it on the board, calculates and indicates the distance travelled, indicates the change from two-way to one-way traffic).
· Clock mechanism (provides accurate timekeeping data both while running and when stopped). Its most important elements are: the tension spring (mainspring), the hour axis and the escapement.
· A mechanism for measuring and controlling air pressure (used in some vehicles to control vehicle braking).
