Notes

The IWC Deep One, introduced in 1999, was the first wristwatch equipped with a mechanical depth gauge that showed depth up to 45 meters. The mechanical depth system is a Bourdon tube which acts as a pressure-sensing element. When water enters the coil tube, it causes the tube to rigidify. The pressure is then indicated by a depth gauge hand in white. A yellow hand indicates the greatest depth during a dive. This system was independent from the watch movement, a JLC 891. A pump was furnished with the watch to test the pressure gauge. The Deep one was made for a very short period due to its high cost of fabrication and relatively small market. Only a few IWC Deep One were sold and the watch was rapidly discontinued. Today, the watch has achieved cult status among collectors.
