The sambar (Cervus unicolor or Rusa unicolor) is an herbivorous mammal of the deer family. The sambar is a solitary animal of tropical and subtropical forests that lives in southern Asia (from the Indian subcontinent to Southeast Asia and southern China). This deer is known for the quality of its dense wood.
