Notes

Bando (Matteo Cellini) A limited number of specially commissioned hand-crafted pieces were made every year for Dunhill?s wealthiest clients. This exclusive production was assigned to the best artisans in Europe. One of these, Matteo Cellini, known as ?Bando?, made most of the compendiums for Dunhill. His signature can be found on the present compendium. The ?Bando? signature signifies that a piece is high-end small series production and that the highest peaks in craftsmanship had been reached. The compendium can be considered a portable writing desk. The original Dunhill catalogue read: ?This case is a masterpiece of ingenious assemblage. It consists of a cigarette case, telescopic pencil, pocket knife, stamp container, concealed ivory writing tablet, five-inch measure, lighter and watch. It was awarded First Prize for craftsmanship and design at the 1932 Goldsmiths? Exhibition?.
