Notes

The beautifully decorated case of this clock is done in the Western tradition of ''japanning'' in imitation of Chinese and Japanese lacquers. The scenes painted on the panels of the present clock are highlighted with applied and shaped panels of abalone shell incorporated into the decoration creating the effect of luster and richness.
