Swiss, circa 1790, attributable to Jaquet Droz. Very rare and large singing bird cage with clock.
C. Octagonal with canted corners, cast and chased gilt bronze, side panel decorated in green laquer with applied gilt bronze pendant foliage and ribbon swags, with sun flowers to each corner, beeded decorated below the cage work with gilt wire bars, opening door to one end, large ring handle to the top and standing on six cast acanthus feet with large central acanthus flower bronze mount in the centre. M. Massive interconnected twin barrel double fusee movement driving the pin drum bird organ with 18 pipes, large rectangular bellows, two separate birds mounted on perches above with turning bodies, one with moving wings, the other moving beak and tait, melody selection and manual set-off knobs at one end of the case with concealed winding arbor. M. Rectangular plates and turned pillars, fusee with chain, balance wheel verge escapement with flat spring and regulator through the edge of the white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, Arabic 15 minute numerals and later hands. In good un-restored condition. Dims. 52 x 45 x30cm.
