P.Jaquet Droz à la Chaux-de-Fonds. Swiss. Circa 1770. Important quarter-stiking longcase regulator with a special escapement.

Ebonised fruitwood case with concave mouldings, panelled plinth and trunk door, with glass lenticle shallow arched hood with glazed front and side doors. Seatboard secured by pinned tongues. Brass dial plate finely engraved with interlaced foliage and an elaborate signature cartouche. Aperture for the date. Slightly bombé white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Later blued-steel moon hands with centre-seconds movement with square brass plates six pillars (4 in brass, 2 in steel), spring barrels, all wheels with five-spoke crossings with pin wheel escapement and steel pendulum rod suspended from the back-board of the case. Striking on two bells, the pierced locking plate visible on the backplate. Signed on the dial. In good condition. Dim. 218 cm. high.

The pendulum rod suspension consist of a steel bar of equal length to the pendulum rod is self, attached at the bottom and free to expend upwards in two brass brackets.
