Jaquet Droz, London, made for the Chinese market, circa 1785. Very fine 20 ct. gold and enamel pearl set center seconds watch with a special escapement.
Double body case with fixed split pearl set bezel, the back of blue translucent enamel over engine turning, with a fine paillonné balustrade and palm tree decoration. split pearl set border. Gilt brass cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals. Gold skeletonized "scoties" hands. Fine gilt brass Lepine caliber movement with free standing barrel, virgule escapement with a plain three armed balance. Signed on the cuvette. In very good condition. Diam. 54 mm. It is important to point out that many features of this watch, such as the fixed bezel of the case, the gilt cuvette, the caliber and the virgule escapement are drawn from the watches made in France at the periode by the famous French maker Jean Antoine Lepine.
