AUSTRIAN SQUARE TABLE CLOCK Johan Georg Stuffler in Wienn. Made circa 1690. Fine, hour-striking, two-train, single hand, gilt brass table clock.
Square, glazed side panels for viewing the movement, molded base and top, hinged base with engraved flowers and aperture for the hour bell secured by a two-arm strap, four turned feet. Applied brass chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, fleur- de-lis half-hour markers, inner quarter-hour track, center with engraved foliate decoration, foliate spandrels and outer border. Blued steel foliate hand. Square gilt brass plates, turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain for the going train, foliate engraved barrel, foliate engraved fixed barrel for the hour striking with an engraved hammer on the bell in the base, pierced and engraved foliate striking gate, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring, single footed cock engraved with stylized foliage and with a screw, regulator on the edge, countwheel for the striking on the backplate. Movement signed.
