The Extract from the Archives, dated December 16, 2021, mentioned that this watch was invoiced on December 31, 1913, to the Longines agent, Maison Wirth, Switzerland.

--

It was probably at the customer’s special request that the watch was delivered unsigned. It is recorded as such in the archival documents of the Saint-Imier Manufacture. A study of the watch shows that it does not bear the name “Longines” in any visible way (movement on the bridges side, dial and case). On the other hand, on a part invisible to the customer, the main-plate on the dial side is duly signed.

In the manufacture’s establishment book, the word “chronometer” appears next to the calibre, with the attribution of a “1 A” quality / class Bulletin de marche (watch rate certificate). In the absence of any specific mention, it is more likely that this is a bulletin issued by a Bureau de contrôle officiel de la marche des montres (official control office for rate certificates of watches), probably in Saint-Imier, rather than a deposit at the observatory in Neuchâtel or elsewhere.

We would like to thank the Longines Heritage department for kindly providing us with the above-mentioned historical information from the Manufacture’s archives.
