Notes

The Longines Ref 5699 is an exquisite large flyback chronograph wristwatch that serves as a testament to the golden era of watchmaking. The Ref 5699 is distinguished by a striking red-colored center elapsed minute counter set against a classic silvered dial, showcasing Longines’s unparalleled attention to detail and craftsmanship. It is affectionately referred to by some collectors as «Doppia Lancetta», an Italian term that translates to «double hand», a nod to the watch’s distinctive chronograph feature.

This presented example is extremely rare, set apart by its order number 23086. Encased in stainless steel, it houses the renowned in-house manual Cal. 13ZN movement. In excellent condition overall, the case remains very sharp. Both the order number and case number are engraved with clarity and depth on the caseback and the back of the lug (of course matching). The original dial exhibits some oxidation and radium burn from the original luminous material. Furthermore, the Longines Extract from the Archives mentions that this watch, under the order number 23086, was produced in 1948 for the Longines-Wittnauer Watch Co., which was, at that time, Longines’s agent in the USA, adding to its rich provenance and collector’s value.
