Notes

Longines (founded in 1832) has a steady and close relationship with the world of aviation, since the beginning of the conquest of the skies, long way to 1919 when Longines became the official supplier of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). Later the manufacture produced the Weems System of Navigation (1927-1929) and the Lindbergh (1931), the two very first pilot’s wristwatches.
Originally sold with a black dial as stated by the extract form the archive, this watch is presented with an additional white dial. Up to our knowledge, the configuration with a white dial has never been yet auctioned. It is worth noticing, it was invoiced to the company's agent at the time Nederlandsche Horlogehandel or N.H. in Amsterdam, Holland. It is equipped with the caliber 12.68Z which is a vintage mechanical movement produced in the 1940s and 1950s. This caliber would have been presented to, former technical director, Alfred Pfister (1874-1951). In 1918, he joined the company's Board of Directors, becoming its Managing Director in 1927. During his career, he worked on reducing the thickness of movements and creating numerous avant-garde calibres and products, including watches for aviators.
