Pere Bouhelier, Swiss, No. 756. Made circa 1830. Very fine and rare, quarter repeating 18K gold pocket watch with special escapement.

C. Four-body, ?bassine et filets?, engine-turned, cast and chased flower and scroll borders, pendant and bow, rope-twist band. Hinged gold engine turned cuvette. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, the center acidetched with foliate scrolls. Gold ?arrow? hands. M. 48 mm., frosted gilt, 12 jewels, standing barrel, gold wheel train, special polished steel lateral lever escapement with elongated lever arm, the fork engaging a locking pin on the balance pivot, bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating with two massive polished steel hammers on two gongs activated by a pull-and-twist button in the pendant, polished steel repeating work under the dial. Cuvette signed. Diam. 58 mm.

Notes

This very fine and interesting watch is made to the highest standards. The escapement is a lateral lever with an elongated fork, the escape wheel has teeth with only a slight angle. The balance has blued steel applied to its upper surface. The present lot was previously sold by Antiquorum, Geneva, on April 10, 1994, lot 79.
