French, Royal Exchange, London, No. 30710, retailed by Auguste Payan a Tunis, circa 1870. Fine 18K gold and enamel hunting cased, early keyless pocket chronometer.

Four body, massive, "bassine et filets " with reeded band, cover and back with green flinque enamel panels over engine turning, surround with florally engraved scalloped edges, the cover centred with a blank escutcheon framed by musical trophies, the back with a bouquet of flowers, large rose-cut diamond set on the winding crown. Hinged gold cuvette. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "spade " hands. M. 21 -, frosted and gilt, three-quarter plate with going barrel, 15 jewels partly in screwed settings, pivoted detent escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves and regulator. Signed on the movement. In very good condition. Diam. 60 mm.
