Mermod Freres, (Sainte Croix), Swiss, circa 1900. Fine and rare gun metal "mignonette" carriage clock with unusual quarter repeating mechanism. In red leather fitted travelling box.

C. Gun metal, "cannelee " , glazed four side and top, gold repeating button set with a ruby cabochon flanked by a gold diamond and ruby-set fret. Front glass engraved with the letter "B" below a Royal crown. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Blued steel "spade " hands. White enamel dial plate with grey decoration in a Renaissance pattern. M. Unusual gilt brass rectangular, the going train with going barrel, gilt brass platform with lateral lever escapement, uncut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating train with horizontal going barrel fitted in the base, striking on a gong. Signed on the dial. Dim. 7,8 x 3,5 x 3,8 cm excluding the handle.
