Thos. Grignion, London, No. 1686, circa 1780. Very fine 22K gold and enamel pair-cased half quarter repeating watch with matching chatelaine.
C. Outer, double body (maker's mark HT) entirely engraved with bright-cut pattern line work decorated with pallets, roundels and wavy lines in white and royal blue flinque enamel, the back centred with a classical urn, the chatelaine.decorated with foliage, ribbons and wavy lines with gilt clip, suspending three panels and four chains, with original key and and complementary gold cage work snuff bottle, glass vinaigrette and scent flask. Inner, double body pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage and grotesque mask. Silver dust-cap. D. White enamel, Roman and Arabic numerals. Blued-steel beetle-andpoker- hands. M. Gilt brass full-plate, turned pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement with steel escape wheel, plain three-am steel balance and flat spring. English pattern balance cock with diamond end-stone. Quarter-repeating on a bell and a-toc by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate, dial and dust cap. Diam: 47mm. Overall 180mm.
