San Jan Bockel, Hague, circa 1640. Very fine and rare gilt-metal and silver oval prebalance spring watch.

C. Gilt-brass three body. Hinged silver cover and back, the cover with a glazed dial aperture, silver overlaid band engraved with foliage and flowers, loose-ring pendant and button finial. D. Hinged gilt-brass dial plate finely engraved with foliage and flower decoration matching that of the band. Applied silver Roman chapter ring. Single balluster-turned bluedsteel hand. M. Hinged shaped gilt-brass full plate with turned urn pillars, fusee with gut-line, three wheel train, verge escapement, two-arm steel balance without spring, irregular oval foliage pierced and engraved cock secured by a pin, with blued steel click for the ratchet wheel set-up.
