Notes

After the revival of the Renaissance style, initiated in France by Violet-le-Duc, objects of virtu inspired by works of art from the 16th and 17th centuries were much in favour in most European countries. In Munich, Kirks & Schwartz were specialised in the production of watches in the Renaissance style, the movements usually made from bits and pieces of 18th century watch movements. Such watches were sold as exhibition pieces and were not intended to be used and were not fitted with working trains.
