Unsigned, Swiss, circa 1840. Fine 18K gold, extra slim half hunting cased watch with a Bagnolet calibre and eccentric dial, in a red leather fitted box stamped with the gilt Arms of Frederick William IV of Prussia, with a gold double ended ratchet male key.

C. Three body, "bassine pincee", the cover with eccentric dial aperture, engine-turned and engraved with a floral decoration. The back decorated en suite. D. Eccentric white enamel with Roman numerals. Blued steel Breguet hands. Gilt brass dial plate profusely engraved with a floral decoration. M. 17'", gilt brass, eight jewels, Bagnolet inverted calibre with the free standing barrel and the train of wheel sunk in the single plate engraved on the reverse with technical details and a floral decoration matching that of the dialplate. Cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Female winding squares. h1 very good condition. Diam. 45 mm.

Notes

This watch was previously in the collection of Frederick Wilhem IV of Prussia. Frederick William IV of Prussia (1795-1861) the son of Frederic William III and of Louise Amelie of Mecklembourg Stoelite. In 1824 he married Elizabeth of Bavaria (1801-1873). King of Prussia from 1840 to 1861, in 1848 he has to concede a Constitution. After an apoplectic stroke in 1858 he had to abdicate, and was succeeded by his brother William 1st. Bagnolet calibre The movement being inverted in the Bagnolet calibre, the escapement and the wheel train are concealed between the dial-plate and the single plate
