Unsigned, Swiss, circa 1790. Fine and unusual 18K gold, pair cased, quarter striking and repeating clock-watch.

C. Double body, Directoire with polished back, the bezels engine-turned and engraved with foliage decoration. Double body protecting case the shagreen covered back with applied engraved silver flowers. D. White enamel with Arabic numerals and outer minute ring. Blued steel hands with gold tips. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Polished steel quarter striking train applied on the back plate with fixed barrel and revolving arbor, striking on a bell. Independent repeating train armed by depressing the pendant. In very good condition. Diam. 60 mm.

The quarter striking train of this clock-watch is very similar to that used on clocks made in the area of Neuchatel. Applications of this type of mechanism on watches are fairly rare.
