Bovet, Fleurier, No. 2411, Swiss, made for the Turkish Market, circa 1850. Very fine and rare 18K gold and enamel, pearl-set centre second watch with special calibre and escapement.

Three body, Empire, the band with champleve enamelled decoration, split-pearl set bezels, pendant and bow, the back enamel panel painted with a fine composition of Summer flowers on a light blue ground. Hinged gold glazed cuvette. D. White enamel with Turkish numerals (slightly restored). Blued steel "trefle" hands. M. Gilt brass, Tixier "Chinese" calibre fully engraved with a scrolled foliage decoration and with gold festoon cut cloisonne enamelled bridges and barrel cover, with free standing barrel, single wheel duplex escapement with polished steel escape wheel the three-arm balance with wedge shaped and partly blued steel weights, flat balance spring and regulator. Bovet's Chinese signature engraved inside the back. In very good condition. Diam. 57 mm.

Watches made in Fleurier with enamelled Tixier calibre are extremely rare, this example, which according to the dial with Turkish numerals, was made for the Islamic Market, is most probably unique, and likely to have been made on special request. Gold enamelled bridges for Tixier calibres were usually made in Fleurier by Pelaz. Similar bridges are illustrated by A. Chapuis in La Maitre Chinoise, colour plate p. 171.
