Attribute to Jean-Eugene Robert known as Robert-Houdin, circa 1850. Fine ormolu and oxidised bronze, hour and halfhour striking "Pendule Mysterieuse".

C. The movement concealed within the shaped oxidised bronze body with applied ormolu ornaments. Shaped gilt wooden base with moulded shell and floral decoration (slightly damaged). Dial supported by a chased foliate ormolu stand. Plain gilt brass bezel. D. Glass with Roman numerals. Gilt brass arrow single hand. M. Brass circular "mouvement de Paris" with going barrel both for the going and the striking train, anchor escapement with short pendulum, silk suspension. Striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. Fixed on a glass plate, the single hand is driven from the bezel by means of bevelled gearings. In good condition. Dim. 42 x 18 x 13 cm.
