G.B. South Germany, circa 1590. Rare, very large early gilt bronze staakfreed watch with alarm.

C. Double body, the band and back pierced and chased with a floral decoration, the cover with chapter apertures, centered with a rosette. D. Gilt bronze with Roman numerals and touch-pieces, inner Arabic ring for hours from 13 to Z4 in the German way and alarm setting disc. Gilt bronze single hand. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with square pillars, open springs with revolving arbors, short steel going train with staakfreed, verge escapement, steel two-arm balance without balance spring, hog bristle regulator. Alarm with steel train, striking on a bell. Monogram on the back plate. In very good condition with some restorations. Diam. 69 mm.
