Double body, bassine form, the back painted on all surfaces with polychrome colours, the back with a scene depicting "Chaste Susan" after a painting from the period, the band with landscape vignettes, framed in sepia and yellow and interspersed with blue panels decorated with ribbon scrolls, signed at 6 o'clock in a cartouche: Les deux Freres Huaud les Jeunes (almost invisible repair around the pendant), interior with a ruin in classical landscape after Gabriel Perelle.Loose ring pendant, foliate engraved gold split bezel for the glass. D. Gold champleve with Roman chapters and half hour divisions. Single blued steel hand. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with pierced quatrefoil pillars, fusee with gut-line, three-wheel train with verge escapement, plain two-arm steel balance without spring, florally pierced gilt brass foliate pierced and engraved oval cock secured by a screw. Worm-and-wheel set-up with pierced silver brackets and indicating disc. Signed on the movement and case. In very good condition. Diam. 40 mm.

The scene depicted on the back of this watch is an allegory drawn from the Book of Daniel: While basing in a river, Susan was solicited by to old men, who upon her refusal, publicly accused her of having seduced them. She proved her innocence by her chastity. Caillate Abraham (1642-1710). The son of Matthieu, watchmaker. He was apprentice to Isaac Penard in 1655.He made astronomical and enamel watches. He formed Jean Gentil in 1672.
