?George Washington Commemoration Watch? M.J. Tobias, Liverpool, No. 155485, made for the U.S. market, circa 1849 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of George Washington?s death. Fine 18K gold independent dead-seconds watch with two going trains and 12-hour recorder.

C. Four-body, ?forme quatre baguettes?, bezels engraved with scrolled foliage, the back engraved with the portait of George Washington. Hinged gold cuvette. D. White enamel, two small symmetrical radial Roman chapter rings, small subsidiary seconds. Blued steel ?spade? hands. M. 48 mm (21''), gilded, bridge caliber, lateral club-tooth lever escapement, half cut compensation balance, parachute, flat balance spring with index regulator. Independent dead center-seconds by means of a flirt on the escape pinion and through an activating bolt in the band. One motion train is driven directly from the independent seconds train in order to be used as hour and minute recorders, however can be used as a second time zone dial if the independent seconds are run continuously.
