Unsigned, (German?), circa 1770. Very fine and extremely rare 22 ct. gold and rock crystal skeleton watch with solid gold movement.

C. Double body Louis XV with plain gold bezel, the rock crystal back carved in a basket-work pattern. D. Gold champleve, fully skeletonised with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Rose-cut diamond set hands. M. Hinged, solid gold, fully skeletonised with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, polished steel end-piece. In very good condition. Diam. 46 mm.

The solid gold movement of this watch, as opposed to those of most other skeleton watches, is not a regular full plate one, fully skeletonised, but appears to have been made from a purposely hand-made calibre.
