Elrhow, London, (Friedberg, Germany), circa 1750. Fine 22 ct. gold, triple cased half-quarter repeating watch, the repousse case signed with the monogram "M.P."

C. Outer double body, gilt brass mounted, shagreen covered. Second, double body, the bezel pierced and repousse with foliage decoration, the back repouse with a scene depicting "the artist and his model" and outer foliage decoration. Inner double body bassine, the band pierced and engraved with a mask and inhabited foliage. D. Gold champleve with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with square baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with foliage. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 53 mm

During the second part of the 18th Century, Friedberg in Germany, not far from Augsburg, where the cases were chased, was an important production centre of watches, mainly repeaters, made for the Dutch, the English and even the French Markets. They were made in the style of the country for which they were intended to be made and signed with the names of their most eminent makers.
