Bailly, Successeur de Weibela'Lyon, circa 1860. Fine and very rare gilt brass eight day going, hour and half-hour striking and repeating Capucine striking twice the hours, with alarm and chronometer escapement.

C. Rectangular, plain, handle on the top with glazed small circular aperture. D. White enamel with gilt Roman numerals, blued steel "trefle" hands. M. Brass rectangular with going barrels both for the going and the striking trains, engine-turned gilt brass platform with pivoted detent escapement, two-arm compensation balance with poising and timing screws, blued steel balance spring with terminal curve and regulator. Pull wind alarm, striking and repeating on a bell in the base with button on the top and repeating work visible on the back plate. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Dim. 18 x 12,5 x 8,5 cm. excluding the handle.

Very little is known about this maker although he was the successor of Weibel, by far the best maker in Lyon towards the end of the 18th century and in the early years of the 19th Century.
