J.R. Losada, 281 Regent Street, London, No. 3481, circa 1860. Fine eight-day going marine chronometer with power reserve indication.

C. Brass bound three body mahogany box with external brass handles, brass corners and mountings, glazed upper section with hinged lid (heavily restored). Brass bowl and gimballed suspension. D. Silvered with Roman nmerals, subsidiary seconds and Up-and-Down scale. Gold "spade" hands. M. Brass spotted three quarter plate with mainframe and sub-frame, cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain and maintaining power, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, two armed bimetallic compensation balance with cylindrical weights and timing screws, diamond end-stone, free sprung palladium helical balance spring. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 20 x 19 x 19 cm. Dial diam. 115 mm.

According to Roberto Moreno: Jose Rodriguez de Losada, Viva y Obra, Madrid 1995, page 72, the marine chronometer No.3480 was bought for the ship Santa Maria , from Las Comisiones Geodesicas e Hidrograficas on 10 November 1862. Therefore, No. 1481 should have been made at the same period.
