"Pendule Ecran ", 18K yellow gold, coral, motherof- pearl and onyx eight day going table dock Paris for New York, circa 1926.

Designed as a vertical panel, the mother-of-pearl mosaic dial with applied rose-cut diamond-set Roman hotu- chapter ring and rose-cut diamondset bands is flanked by two rows of coral cylinders and mounted between two arches on a rectangular onyx base with yellow gold frame and applied with a rose-cut diamond-set monogram, the gold black enamelled band with side mother-of-pearl plaques, the rear face decorated en suite. Circular 18"' gilt brass, 17 jewels, straight lire lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring with micrometric index. Measuring approx. 17.5 cm. high. Cartier Certificate of Authenticity N° 2421.

Notes

Inspired by Oriental screens, the "Ecran" (French terne for panel) was first produced in 1923. Very few examples were ever produced, thereby ma king each and every one a rare collectable. It is interesting to note that it was this Ecran which inspired the creation of the similarly designed Mystery dock in 1928.
