?Miniature Watch, Special Escapement? Roulet, à Genève. Made circa 1800. Fine and rare, miniature, 18K gold huntingcased pendant watch with front-mounted balance wheel and unusual escapement.

White enamel, small, eccentric, Breguet numerals, outer minute track, balance wheel mounted below with a two-footed cock and faceted red endstone, foliate engraved gold dial mask. Blued steel ?Cathedrale? hands. M. 25 mm, gilt, full-plate, cylindrical pillars with chased capitals, modified cylinder type escapement with flat brass escape-wheel, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring. Movement signed. Diam. 30 mm.

Notes

The escapement of the present watch is similar to the traditional cylinder escapement in that it has a curved, hollowed-out balance staff. However, the escape wheel has flat teeth rather than raised teeth and is reminiscent of Paul Garnier?s later invention the ?chaffcutter? escapement.
