?The Cherub? Denis Bordier, Genève. Made for the Russian market circa 1640. Very fine and exceptionally rare, silver, oval, pre-balance spring pendant watch.

C. Oval, two-body, ?fermée? type, fully chased with flowers and foliage, the cover decorated with a cherub leaning on a shield, back centered with a small landscape. Chased lower finial and loose ring pendant. D. Gilt brass chapter ring engraved with radial Roman numerals and half-hour divisions, applied on the hinged silver plate located by four lugs and entirely engraved with scrolling foliage. Gilt brass single ?tulip? hand. M. 38 x 44 mm, oval, hinged, gilt brass, fusee with gut, the back plate engraved with flowers and foliage, elaborate pierced and engraved gilt brass pillars, short three-wheel train, verge escapement, plain steel two-arm foliot without spring, irregular gilt brass pierced and florally engraved balance cock secured by a pin, ratchet wheel set up with matching decoration. Denis Bordier (1629-1708) The son of Jacques I, he was a Maître horloger who is known for his form watches and rock crystal watches. He was associated with his brother Isaac from 1653 to 1665.
