Not signed, France, circa 1810. "Le Matelot". Fine gilt and lacquered bronze, eight day going, hour and half hour striking " Pendule au Nègre" after a drawing patented on August 1808

The movement is fitted in the cubical cotton bail, to the right a black lacquered bronze slave with enamelled eyes leans on the bail, holding a rope in his left hand, anchor, barrel and oar on the left. Octagonal gilt bronze base standing on four barrel feet with a central light relief depicting putty loading a vessel. D. White enamel with Roman numerals (replacement). Pierced and chased gilt brass hands. M. Brass circular with going barrel on both trains, anchor escapement, short pendulum with silk suspension. Striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 37 x 31 x 11 cm.
