Not signed, German, circa 1630. Fine and rare, quarter striking early weight driven automaton dock.
C. Rectangular with iron front face and sicle doors, the left one painted with the figure of a monk, the right one with that of a Saint Lady. Then front face painted with the dials with the automaton face of a Saint at the top. D. Painted chapter ring with Gothic Roman numerals, centred with a sun-burst an a later revolving alarm setting dise, subsidiary small dial for quarters of hour. Single iron hand. The half lengths body of the automaton's head is painted above the dial. Driven by the balance wheel foliot, the automatons head opens and close the mouth. M. Iron posted frame movement with square pillars, verge escapement with heavy iron balance wheel foliot, linked via levers to the automaton mouth. Hours and quarters striking on two bells with locking plates. In very good condition, with some restorations. Dim. 41 x 15 x 16 cm.
