Not signed (Thomas Cole), circa 1860. Fine and rare gilt bronze month going dock.

C. Gilt brass tripod suspended from three circular pillars, standing on a circular stepped base engraved with foliage decoration, supported on three adjustable nuts for levelling. Thermometer in degree Farhenheit. D. Silvered with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, engraved with scrolled foliage. Blued steel "spade" bands. M. Gilt brass, double cage, one for the going barrel, the other for the dead beat escapement, half second beating pendulum with silvered bail bob, suspended from the top of the tripod. Cole's pendulum locking system and plum line to ascertain when the dock is level. In very good condition. Dim. 52 x 24 cm.
