Montjoye Fils à Paris, circa 1785. Extremely fine ormolu and white marble eight day going, hour and half hour striking centre seconds dock with double calendar, designed as a lyre.
C. Designed as a lyre with ormolu applied acanthus leaves and swags of flowers, a figure of Apollo on the top, flanked by two heads of eagles holding a large swag of flowers. The mock fixed vine rod gridiron pendulum is seen between the upper parts of the lyre. Oval base in white marble with applied gilt bronze fleurons and foliage decoration, gilt pearl ornament chains and tassels. D. White enamel chapter ring with Arabic numerals, outer minute, seconds and red calendar rings, inner days of the week indication. Pierced and engraved gilt brass "lyre" hands. M. Large brass circular with going barrels both for the going and the striking train, pin-wheel escapement set on the back plate, the half second beating pendulum with spring suspension. Striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Dim. 63 x 28 x 12 cm.
