Marcks & Co. Ltd. Bombay & Poona, Swiss, made for the Indian Market, circa 1900, the case by Ferrero, Geneva. Extremely fine, 18 ct. gold and enamel hunting cased diamond set, keyless minute repeating watch.

C. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", the band and bow chased with decoration, cover and back of green translucent enamel over engine-turning, inlaid with a rich decoration of old-cut diamonds in a floral pattern, the borders chased with decoration. Hinged gold cuvette partly engraved with foliage and flowers. D. Mat silver with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, the centre applied with a fine cast gold floral decoration. Blued steel "peur hands" . M. Glazed, 17-, gilt brass, 29 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Signed on the dial and movement. In very good condition. Diam. 52 mm.

Similar case illustrated by E.Jaquet and A. Chapuis in La Montre Suisse, pl. 137. J. Ferrero. Case maker jeweller, he also was an able engraver and enameller. Settled in Geneva, 19, rue du Rhône in 1854. Highest award at the Chicago Exposition Unuverselle in 1893 and gold medal at the Exposition Nationale de Genève in 1896. He was member of the Jury at the Exposition Universelle de Paris, in 1900. He was specialised in the very expensive enamelled, diamond and gem set watch cases for the Chinese and the Indian markets.
