Octagonal with compass and adjustable gnomon designed as a bird, engraved with the Longitude of 26 cities in Europe. Signed on the top. In very good condition. Dim. 65 x 58 mm.

Very good example of octagonal silver sun-dial,
signed by his inventor. Very popular during the first
quarter of the XVIIIth century, this type of sundials
are universally named Butterfield, after the naine of
their inventor, even when signed by other makers.
