Margetts, London, No. 101, circa 1790. Rare eight day going marine chronometer, Corrected by Morris Tobias, new balance and spring by John Hutton, 10 Mark Lane, London AD 1858, rosewood box and gimbles almost certainly from the latest date.

C.Three body entirely brass bound rosewood box, with inlaid brass stringing and sunk brass handles, glazed upper section with hinged lid with inlaid brass scrolling decoration. Brass bowl and gimballed suspension. D. Silvered with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "diamonds" hands. M. Three-quarter plate with with main frame and sub-frame, steel turned baluster pillars, fusee with chain and maintaining power, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, compensation balance, diamond end-stone, free spr ulg blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves. Wound through the sicle of the bocal by means of right angle gearing and a device performing the saine function as a ratchet key. Signed on the dial. In good condition. Dial diam. 116 mm. Dim. 14 x 20 x 20 cm.
