C. Outer double body, polished, marked "A.R.". hnzer double body, bassine, polished, marked "W.I. ". D. White enamelled on gold with sunk centre, Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, aperture for the blued steel regulator disc with gold inlaid numerals and divisions. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands, the minute one arched to clear the regulator and winding squares. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with elaborate pierced and engraved Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock with small solid foot, large table with two supporting brackets, pierced and engraved with foliage, diamond endstone. Signed on the dial and back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 50 mm.

Notes

Note: This watch is remarkable in that not only does it have jewelled holes and endstones for the verge pivots but also jewelled holes and endstones in the potence and counter-potence. Daniel Quare was the first in England to have his watches with winding square passing through the dial. In order to avoid opening the watches to be set-up, the regulator was in the front as well with an aperture in the dial for the regulator disc. Previously in the S.E. Prestige Collection, this watch was sold by Sotheby's in London on 29 April 1968, Lot no. 14, p. 12.
