Ganthony, 83 Cheapside, London, circa 1840. Rare and extremely fine, ormolu, eight day going carriage dock in the manner of Thomas Cole specially made to be presented to the Vicountess Valentia.

C. Rectangular, with eight applied flat columns, arched pediment and glazed sicle and top panels, entirely engraved with scrolls. Figures of saints between the front columns and below the dial a seated lady with children. Inscription on the pediment: F.I.F, OB. VII.MaII A.D. MDCCCXII. II, and on the base: "We took sweet counsel together, and walked in the flouse of God as friends". Dedication on the back door: "Presented in compliance with the wish of Mrs. Frances James Freshfield, to her niece The Vicountess Valentia, by her sorrowing husband. 1842". D. Silver with Roman numerals, engraved with the coat-of-arms of the Vicountess. Blued steel "fleur de lys" hands. M. Very fine brass rectangular eight day going movement with turned pillars, fusee with chais, frosted and gilt platform escapement with pointedtooth lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, flat blued steel balance spring, diamond endstone to balance cock. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 21.5x13x8cm.
