Alfred John Higham. Documents concerning his Invention of a modified form of Gravity Escapement, 1875.
a) Grant of patent No. 2917 for 1875 to Higham for his invention. Manuscript on vellum, 77 x 52 cm sealed with the great seal of Victoria in yellow wax, contained in a tin box. diameter 17 cm. b) the printed patent specification, 1876. Sm fol., p/wraps, pp 7 with flg plate. c) Two provisional patents of protection dated 22 April and 18 August 1875. 2 sheets, td paper & manuscript. d) Holograph description of his invention by Alfred Higham. 2ff. e) A copy of the Horological Journal vol )(VIE, April, 1876 containing a report on Higham 's patent. The whole collection contained in a black shagreen covered box gold-stamped in the centre of the panelled lid with the royal arms and the name of William Brookes, Patent & Registration Agent, 62 Chancery Lane, London' who had certainly acted for Higham on this ocassion.
