Thos. Grignion, London, No. 1686, circa 1780 Very fine gold and enamel pair-cased half-quarter repeating watch with matching chatelaine.

C. Outer, double body (makees mark HT) entirely engraved with bright-cut pattern line work decorated with pallets, roundels and wavy lines in white and royal blue translucent enamel, the back centred with a classical urn, the chatelaine decorated with foliage, ribbons and wavy lines with gilt clip, suspending three panels and four chains, with original key and complementary gold cage work snuff bottle, glass vinaigrette and scent flask. Inter, double body pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage and grotesque mask. Silver dustcap. D. White enamel, Roman and Arabic numerals. Blued-steel "beetle and poker" bands. M. Gilt brass full-plate, turned pillars, fusee with chais, cylinder escapement with steel escape wheel, plain three-am steel balance and flat spring. English pattern balance cock with diamond endstone. Quarter-repeating on a bell and "à-toc" by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate, dial and dust cap. In very good condition. Diam: 47 mm. Overall 180 mm.
