J. M. French, Royal Exchange, London, Swiss, circa 1850. Fine and unusual 18 ct. gold and enamel, hunting cased watch with the enamelled portraits of the French Imperial couple.
C. Four body, massive, the cover and back chased on the border with an enamelled floral and foliage decoration, the cover centred with the painted portrait of Napoléon III, the back with that of his wife Eugénie de Montijo. Gold cuvette engraved: "Demi Chronomètre", engine-turned on the border. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued steel " dessin" hands. M. 18-, gilt brass three quarter plate, the back plate in form of a butterfly engraved and inlaid with rubies, going barrel, Swiss lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel balance spring. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Diam. 49 mm.
