Not signed, No. 1485, Genève, made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. "La Leçon d'Histoire". Fine 18 ct. gold and enamel, pearl set, quarter repeating watch with centre seconds.
C. Four body, "Empire" with split-pearl set bezels, pendant and bow, the band with azure and red champleve enamelled decoration, the back inset with a fine enamel panel painted with a scene depicting a warrior and his family paying tribute to the memory of the messenger of Marathon. Hinged glazed gold cuvette decorated with champleve enamelled flowers and butterfly over a blue ground. D. Silver engine-turned with applied gold Roman numerals, the centre engraved with a rosette. M. 20"', gilt brass, partly engraved with foliage, Lepine type calibre with free standing barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring. Repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant. In very good condition. Diam. 55 mm.
