C. Double body mahogany, rectangular with glazed lid. D. Silvered with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds.Blued steel "dauphines" hands. M. Transistor controlled electrically impulse, chronometer pattern Guillaume balance, free sprung blued steel helical balance spring. Signed on the dial and the movement. In very good condition. Dim. 17 x 13 x 9 cm.

Notes

Sold with contest result photocopies of the Concours de Chronomètres organised from 16 January to 20 May 1961 by the Service Hydrographique de la Marine, to purchase the chronometers for the French Navy. In 1961, the Chronostat III were tried for the first time with the new rules specially set out for battery powered chronometers. Eight Chronostats III were presented to the contest, six of them were successful and bought by the navy, two other were accepted although they were not fully successful and had to be adjusted by the maker. Two only were refused.
