Martinot au Gros Orloge à Rouen, circa 1660. Fine and rare, 20 ct gold, pair cased, pre-balance spring watch.

C. Double body outer, shagrin covered with elaborate gold pin work decoration with a crowned monogram on the back. Inner double body, bassine, polished with split bezel and lose-ring pendant. D. White enamel with Roman numerals, the centre with a floral decoration (slightly restored). Fine single bronze hand. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with turned baluster pillars, fusee with gut-line, verge escapement with plain steel two-arm balance without spring, Gilt brass florally pierced and engraved irregular cock secured by a screw, worm and wheel set-up with elaborate blued steel bracket. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 6 mm.
