Frères Bordier à Genève, No. 52980, circa 1795. Fine and very rare 18 ct. gold and enamel, pearl set, quarter repeating historical commemorative watch.

C. Double body, Louis XVI with split-pearl set bezels, the enamel back panel painted with a scene depicting the separation of the King Louis XVI from his family, just before to be sent to jail. Glazed gilt brass protecting case. D. White enamel with Arabic numerals (slightly restored on the border of the winding hole). Gold pierced hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement with plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with gilt brass continental cock and polished steel endpiece. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial and back plate In very good condition. Diam. 54 mm.

It is extremely rare to find a watch from this period decorated with such a scene considered then as seditious. It was certainly made for a noble emigrant.
