S. Chartier à Genève, circa 1840 Fine and rare 18 ct. gold pendant polychrome watch-holder with segmented fan cover, containing an engraved gold watch with inlaid enamel.
The heart-shaped bow carries a suspension ring and has attached to its back a pin with locking piece. The pendant may be swivelled out from the pin in one direction only. At the base of the bow is a chased inverted tulip concealing a hinge to enable the entire cover of the watch case to be lifted. This cover is composed of an ovoid fan in five segments which slide over each other to reveal the watch beneath. The largest, centrall segment is adorned with a polychrome enamel landscape with foreground lake beneath a border of emeralds; the two flanking segments carry floral decoration on a white enamel ground. AII three of these enamel plaques are set above cloisonné enamel foliate tracery which alone decorates the two outer segments. Gold watch holder with hinged door, the back pierced and engraved with asymmetricl foliate tracery. C. Four body, "forme quatre baguettes" with three quarter engraved bow, engraved bezel and symmetrically designed back with engraved and black, blue and white cloisonné enamel foliate decoration. Gold cuvette. D. White enamel with Roman numerals. Gold Breguet hands. M. 9"', gilt brass, bar calibre, 4 jewels, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring. Signed on the cuvette. In very good condition. Dim. 80 x 40 mm.
